    Default question about wool fat

Ok I have just recieved my new razor, strops, brush and soap...and wool fat? I dont know what to do with this, I thought you got a brick of soap and put it in a bowl add water and suds it up. do I use the wool fat instead of soap in conjunction with the soap (if so how?) or Have I completely missed the mark and its for something else? I am very excited to start shaving but I want to make sure I am doing this right before I mess it all up.

Do you mean Mitchell's wool fat, the soap? Or are you talking about lanolin cream? I'm a bit unclear what you mean from your post - it sounds like it is not a soap?

If it is the MWF, use it as you'd use any soap. If it is a lanolin-based cream, that is usually used as a skin moisturiser for hands and faces etc. I've never used that kind of thing in conjunction with shaving, though I have used it after a shave to moisturise.

That's no problem Boots - we have all been there. MWF likes water. I used to stick it in the bottom of a shaving mug of sufficient diameter and work a bit onto the brush, adding small amounts of hot water as I went until I got a lather at the consistency I wanted.

After a while of doing that and figuring out the water/soap ratio, I ended up lathering on the face rather than in the bowl. Either way is good, just comes down to preference.

Good luck, I think you'll like MWF!

All good boots, everybody has those moments. The first time I threw some cologne instead of aftershave on...well, last time I did that
