Thanked: 03rd shave and going ok
well looks like im am true to form. I have made about every mistake the beginners guide warned about LOL! Cut my new strop, nicked my face several time on the 2nd shave and on it goes. today was much better however and even though I'm not getting as close a shave as I would like I am able to do my whole face (as long as I am patient) and I am confident it will get much better with practice! I have fairly dry and thin skin and am thinking of purchasing MWF. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for all the greast content and help on this site!

Sounds like everything is running true. I've done all the things you mentioned, and the day I got my first really good shave I turned to get a towel and dropped my razor right on the edge of the sink, ARGH!!!
I think you'll like the MWF. I don't have sensitive skin, but I really like the MWF, aroma, lanolin and lathering ability. Everyday I start to shave, it's hard not to go to it every time. I guess you can tell I like it. The lanolin lasts most of the day, not greasy, but you can tell it's there. The smell lasts also, but faint and very pleasant.
Anyway, glad its coming along well and hoping you have great shaves, and that you don't ever drop your razor.
Best Regards,
Howard

I would not reccomed MWFS to you...... I want it all for self... It is my favorite soap.. But if you have dry skin, you might look at some aftershave balm that moisturizes? I like AOS. sandelwood balm.. It helps my weathered lizard like complexion..

Yeah, I have that aftershave balm. It's amazing... too bad it's only from my sample pack. I need to finish my older one, before I get something new. But I will probably get George H Trumpers.
You're farther than I am USMC. I only have done one shave. I don't have my strop yet, coming in the mail tomorrow with the rest of my stuff. My razor was honed and stropped well, so I at least could do one shave. I did about half of my face first shave, but then I did something very stupid... I had my face too close to the mirror, and when I was bringing my arm back down towards the sink, I hit my chin pretty fast and hard. It was a nice long and pretty deep cut. Bled for a while... making my total shave time 1 hour lol! You can read my full post and see a pic here:

Good luck and better luck next timeLast edited by dorknight; 10-02-2012 at 08:53 PM. Reason: Meant Trumpers, not Thumpers lol! *facepalm*

You can try one or two drops of food grade glycerin to anything, helps during the winters here. I really like the speick, proraso alcohol free, and anthony logistics aftershave balms for the winter. Just remember you are over the hump and are getting better with every shave; patience pays in dividends here..inpatience pays in blood!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

I've got 3 shaves under my belt so far also, and like you have pretty much stayed true to form in doing most of what the beginner guide has said would happen . I've been working on doing my whole face also (even though it is just recommended to do partial shaves to start with) and so far just a few nicks and a couple of small slices (mostly just from trying to get the positioning down on my neck). I will say that the only shaves that I've gotten that has been closer than my SR has been a brand new cartridge (less than 4 shaves) in my Gillette Mach3s. Now I can't wait until my brush and soap get here tomorrow for my fourth shave; I decided to just keep using some of my old cream before getting the brush, soap, and everything just to make sure it is something I want to go all in on.
I can't speak form experience but just by going off of everything I've read on these forums that for sensitive skin then MWFS or glycerin will do wonders in helping you out.
