Honing
Apparently, I'm not doing that well at honing my razors, it certainly looks easy, but it's not. So, I can either keep trying myself, find someone near me who hones (I don't want to have to mail them), have someone teach me to hone or I'll have to mail them to someone to hone for me. I live in the Tacoma Washington area, is there any hone masters in that area ?

Well.......IF you actually were in Texas, I might be able to help. Good luck! Someone will come along. You could change the title of your post to "Honing Help in Tacoma Washington. Everyone thinks you are in Texas! Good Luck!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Well, I'm not in Texas anymore, but that's my home state, where I was born. Proud to be a Texan.

There is a Meet coming up in Spokane this month, I believe. That would be a great place to make the right connections and learn first-hand.
Describe what you are doing that isn't working and maybe someone can pick out what is going on for you.
I've been honing and then shaving with my razors for a bit now but far from a Master but I can sure bounce ideas around with you.
Isn't there some new Everything Shaving store at Southgate/Southcenter Mall? There may be a contact there. I have never been there but my kids spoke about it.

Lots of guys in that area, look in the vendors section, and post the thread that was suggested above, even if you have to do it on a weekend or off day; talk to the person and see if you can come and watch and pay them to hone the razor for you, but allow you to participate. Money well spent in my opinion.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 443How far are you from Portland? Pinklather is in that area; I know he is a very careful honer.
It's really a shame you can't make that meetup; gssixgun will be there and he's a great honer/teacher. We just enjoyed having him in Denver. If there's any chance at all of rescheduling your other thing, do it. You'll be glad you did. A few hours at a meetup is worth months of reading and fiddling.
Best wishes to you."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
