    Default Cleaning Inside The Pivot...

    Any good tricks for this?

For knives I've used an application of White Lightning, allowing it to harden, then running under hot water to remove the White Lightning and the gunk collected in it. I would then use a hair dryer to completely dry the blade out, re-lube and be good to go.

The pivot seems to be a tad more loose on razors so wondered if that would work or if it is easier to just use something like dental floss or ???

cleaning I just use a papertowel and wiggle it around in there with some method all purpose cleaner, b/c it's safe on every material I have ever needed to clean. To relube, I just use a pen oil applicator with some tuff glide or gun oil then run toilet paper in there to get the excess.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

I have two words for you: Dental Floss

You can use a single piece -- or fold it once-or-twice -- then give it a go! Works well with Maas, etc.

For the top & bottom of the blade, at the pivot, I use Q-tips flattened with a pliers.
Then I use this to get into the tight areas.

Man, that's why I love the information from thie Forum! I was onto the dental floss idea a bit but wouldn't have thought about doubling strands and I never would have thought of smashing down a Q-Tip with pliers... I would have probably found some micro-cotton swab at 10X the normal price and run with that.

Basic, effective maintenance with common materials = More $$$ for razors, strops, etc, right?!?!?!?!?!
