Default 4 weeks down with a Blackbeard's cut throat.

So I have been lurking around the forum for a few about a month now absorbing as much information as I possible can.

So as my title suggests I have been shaving with a Bluebeard's disposable cut throat with Derby blades. I am still learning and can see myself getting better and better each time. Or at least getting better at one thing and messing up on another. I think my fist shave took me close to an hour consisting of a shower, 2 hot towels, lather, shaving and my post shave. The first results were quite impressive. I couldn't wait to shave the next day. I did however, find that my skin was super raw and hating me after my second shave. I think this was due to my new developing skill, too much pressure and inexperience.
As I assume most people have difficulties with are the neck and chin area. Today I was able to do a complete shave WTG and ATG passes. As I was happy with the results I did find it a little easier to go with an XTG pass for parts of my chin and stash area.
I have noticed the razor rash and burn has gone down considerable. My ailments today are a few nicks and cuts. Nothing too serious. They should be more than on their way to a mends by tomorrow.
I have a starter straight razor kit from STD consisting of a Dovo best quality 5/8 waiting for me in Canada (I will get it in Dec) and a Wapi from Classic Edge (both shops supplied me with the utmost in customer service. Thank you to both) on the way to me here in Rome. I cannot wait to get my hands on the Wapi and Dovo. I also have a Wapi being sent from Poland. It looks like it is in good condition with original scales but probably not shave ready. Having a military background I found the history of it intriguing. I thought this may be a good razor to learn to strop on so I do not mess up my others.

As I have read on many threads a disposable blade is a lot sharper then a straight. I understand that is takes a lot less work, but may take a little more pressure for the blade to cut because it is so light. I have sensitive skin am hoping a lot of my mistakes, cuts, nicks and irritation will subside with a heavier straight razor and as my skill, technique and proficiency get better.

So far my experiences have been mixed but overall a grand experience. Today was the best shave yet. I am finding that it is taking less and less time with each passing week.

This was kind of all other the map. I just wanted to share my experience and learning curve thus far.

Thank you for a great site.

Welcome. One of my favorite Shavettes is a Parker cone with Derby 1/2 professional blades. Great shave.
