Cleaning off the oil

ok so wow I'm embarassed to be writing this but how do you wipe the oil off your blade before stropping? I was using a tissue to wipe it and I can't believe it but I sliced my finger. It's not bad (no stitches required or anything) and I honestly didn't even feel it. I just saw blood from my finger tip. But now I must ask this I guess... Thanks.

i dont oil my blades, but i have another question to ask.. for those who oil their blades every day, even with wiping the oil off before stropping each time, dont you end up slowly oiling your strop in the process?

There is nothing to be embarrassed about, these suckers are SHARP!!!
I use a tissue to get rid of the oil because I dont want to wet the blade but putting just the blade under some hot running water will also do the trick. You could also try to wipe it on a soft sponge the same way you would to wipe of lather

Guys.........run your blade under running hot water and then wipe dry with a towel or cotten ball. Then strop away........

hold razor so sharp edge faces away from you, with other hand grasp tissue between thumb and forefinger, so the spine is facing toward you, clean blade and try not to cut tissue with blade, because even that can be a detriment to the edge ( oh, and i don't mean body tissue)

I guess it depends a lot on what oil and how much. I rub Eucalyptus oil on my razor after use and after a post shave strop (10/10). Eucalyptus oil is very light but it does the job. I never clean it off before stropping before the next shave, but it's so light you can see it at all. I have no rust problems with my razors, they're stored in two three razor cases on my desk in my bedroom (on top of the desk not in a drawer). The bedroom window, which is about two feel from the desk; maybe less, is always open, rain, hail or shine, summer and winter alike, yet as I say, I have no problems with rust.

Oh, I'm sure a lot of people here would be SICK to DEATH of me going on about Eucalyptus oil; I'm sure they think every time they see a post about oil on razors 'oh no, Carl's going to be going on about Eucalyptus oil again...'

And there is nothing wrong with that Carl.

I always run my blade under the hot tap and wipe it dry on a microfibre cloth prior to stropping - obviously holding the blade away from any body parts.
Have the spine in the fold of the cloth as Grazor suggested and it all should be good

I got to give Eucalyptus oil a try.
I honestly don't mind getting oil on the strops.
cause i know it's critical to the oil vintage strops after cleaning the dirt and gunk off them
with saddle soap. for oil is leather's best freind.
I paint in on them with a paint brush and watch them suck up that oil.
it's not bad for the leather.

Reading Wikepidia that stuff's made good for ya.
I wonder if it's heavy on the anti oxidants too.
as anti oxidants are good for treating and preventing colds.
And these stuff is used to treat colds.
and anti oxidants would prevent rusting on the micro level.
cause it don't let the bonding happen.

Though all of my rusty blades came rusty.
as i would never pass them up for a buck.
up as high ten bucks if i really want it.
