Question New here - hello & question

Hello all. I found out about this forum from the folks at the B&B forum. I just made the jump to DE wetshaving about a month ago (from Mach 3) and I love it.

I never thought I'd be interested in straight razor shaving, but here I am, still a relative newbie to DE wetshaving, and eager to make the jump. I like the simplicity of straights, their self-contained quality, the prospect of more control (I have a very tough, fast-growing beard and sensitive skin; currently a Merkur Slantbar with a Feather blade seems best for me, but I'd like to be able to get even closer and more comfortable shaves). Plus, there's the history, the elegance.... well, I shouldn't tell you folks what you already know!

Anyway, I'm looking for equipment. I'd like to start off modestly, as cost is an issue for me at the moment. Any suggestions?

And many thanks - I've enjoyed lurking here a bit, and I'm happy to join in the fun.

    -Michael

    Smile Welcome Michael

Check the links. Bill Ellis at www.billysblades.com has some great restos from time to time as well as Josh and others. Tony Miller has everything you need to get going all in one jump at www.thewellshavedgentleman.com. Watch the For Sale or Trade Forum as there's been something new there every week. You've come at a good time. The community is starting to run pretty smoothly with soaps and creams and razors too.

Not exactly an old hand here myself, but since I just went through what you want to go through.... Tony's starter kits from http://www.thewellshavedgentleman are a good deal and the easiest way to get a quality start. Trust me if you buy cheep you will just be buying again, and sooner than you think. You might be able to go a little bit cheaper than the whole starter kit by getting the razor from one of the members here, like Lynn, or Joe, if they have anything available this close to Christmas.

Be prepared this is addictave in the worst way

P.S. Lynns video is THE best twenty a potential straight shaver can spend!!!

I can only help out with the blades....but if you're looking for a strop you can't go wrong with Tony Miller (Or so I'm told because i've not yet had the funds to purchase from hm).

I have an entry-level strop from Tony and it's great quality!

    Hello and welcome,

Just thought I wouyld mention that, if you do decide to buy a razor off Ebay, post a message here. This is simple because there are quite a few CRAP new razors selling there that you will never be able to shave with. I know, I bought one myself .
