Thanked: 0A good place to buy shaving soap and , brushes, alum sticks?
There is nothing in member services, or classified section. Would some of the products in the duluth trading catalog be ok for a newbie? I can then graduate on to better refined products
thanks!

Thanked: 55I don't know how to define "good" but I got my soap, brushes, mug, and styptic pencil at the local Rite-Aid drug store.

Thanked: 375Looked at Dultuh's site, the razor I thought was a decent price, and Edwin Jagger DE's are good. I don't know about the brush they don't tell you what grade of badger hair, they just say badger, so it may be pure badger or mixed. I'm sure being an Edwin Jagger product it's good stuff. Badger hair knots from lowest to highest grade are: mixed, pure, best, finest, silvertip and I probably missed some. If it were me I'd want at least a best badger hair shave brush 22mm - 24mm knot. I'd shop around for the alum block that seems like a lot of $$ to me. Here's what I use Ali Biyikli Cilt SAPI Alum Block Best Brand of Turkey 70 GRS 1 Block | eBay

Well I looked up this Duluth store and note it's not a "wet shaving" store. Moreover, I couldn't find anything in the on-line version to do with shaving. But that's not to say that they don't sell them, and they aren't quality products. You might want to send a link next post.
I personally like to support vendors that specialize in Wet Shaving - for a multitude of reasons that I'll spare you but the largest reason being that they will ensure you have a large selection to choose from.
Cheers.David

+1 to David's advice. I love Duluth Trading - but for clothes (their firehose gear in particular is fantastic - highly recommended), not shaving gear. If you go to a specialist shop like SRD or Fendrihans here in Canada, or any of the other stores that focus primarily on wet shaving gear you well have a much wider selection and perhaps as importantly, knowledgeable staff who will be able to guide you in the right direction.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 247A good place to buy shaving soap and , brushes, alum sticks?
Good recommendations thus far.
My local grocery store has all the FANTASTIC Nivea after shave balms and several decent soaps.
Bath and Body Works in the local mall has Bigelow shaving cream in a tube for reasonable price.
My local drugstore carries Pinaud aftershave (Clubman ) and styptic pencils by Pinaud. They also have others as well as Alum blocks if desired.
I live in a fairly small city of ~30,000.
I'd suggest that if you look around the good stuff is out there

Thanked: 1263Welcome to the Forum Letting us know where you are would help us out a bit too. You can get a cheap boar hair brush and some soap such as Proraso at many local drugstores as well.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the replies. . Im still trying to figure out my source for my first razor, im leaning towards a e bay find that i will have made shave ready, i will try the duluth ones for a starter, and get a middle of the road brush and read up a ton on prep and technique, for a first timer...

I bought my first stuff from Shavenation. Pretty decent prices. But I'm still new to this whole thing so I'm still learning about new spots.
