Default Trouble keeping lather in the bowl

I have watched the videos and have gotten to where I can whip up a pretty good lather. My problem is that I cannot keep it in the bowl or mug. It seems to froth to the top and winds up on the handle of my brush, my hands, and the rim. Any tricks to keep this to a minimum?

Less water as you are loading the brush, watch Lynn's vid on how he loads the brush, that is probably the simplest way to create a great lather..

After the brush is loaded then you are set, you can go to the face or a bowl to make the lather..

The one thing to remember is that you want to load the brush - Then - make the lather, instead of doing it at the same time, I hope that made sense...

Thats what I did. I soaked the brush, shaked it off, loaded it, and then began to lather in a bowl. I tried a couple of mugs too. It makes a lather about the consistency of your regular shaving cream in a can, although a bit lighter but as I stir all the lather is forced to the top of the rim and up to the handle of the brush. I can take the brush and wipe the rim and try and get it back into the mug to continue whipping but it always forces its way back to the top. I have yet to try the face method, which I will practice tomorrow. The lather in itself seems fine, its just messy.

If your getting foam then why not try skipping the bowl and just lather on your face . doing it this way helped me to learn a lot about making lather. went thru all the stages from too much water to too little to drying out to.. till I dialled it in now I dont even think about it .

well sorry actuall I do, I think about which soap to buy next .

Part of the problem could be the size and shape of the bowl you are using. My primary lather bowl is on the large side, bulbous in the middle and narrows at the opening (still plenty of room to swirl the brush though). It seems to do a fine job of containing the lather within the bowl. Just something else to consider.

This is one of the reasons I like my scuttle..it has a lip at the top that helps keep the lather from overflowing and in the bowl.

Sounds like you need a bigger mug.

Personally, I mostly face lather so that is never an issue.

This seems like it would help the problem a lot. It is getting nice and foamy and thick. I will try to find something of the sort in combination with everyone else's suggestions. Im gonna try to face lather do as I have been wanting to try that method.
