Default Norton Hone deal on Amazon I stumbled across (expires soon)

I was poking around and stumbled across this. Only 2.5 hours left on the deal but in case anyone is looking for a deal:

Norton Waterstone Starter Kit: 220/1000 grit stone, 4000/8000 grit stone, SiC flattening stone

$117 for the next 2.5 hours. I didn't buy one but only because I don't know how to hone yet

I'm not educated enough in it yet to even know if this is appropriate for straights

It is a good kit..I just recently got this one myself..paid a bit more for it but it is a good kit. Nothing wrong with that set.

Can I use it for both knives and razors or is it one of those things where you would want to dedicate it only to razors if you fear that a knife will somehow ruin it?

I would imagine that you could use it for knives..but it may ruin it for your razors..I bought them specifically for my razors..you need one for knives as well?

You can use for both knives and razors just need to clean and lap in between uses.

I don't even know what lapping means. See why I don't post outside of the Beginners forum? I wound up not getting it even myself. I don't think I'm ready to hone...
