    Hi Lonnie,

    Welcome to SRP.
If you look at the Forum (link at the top of the page) you will find that there is an entire section on honing, and another section on the hones themselves.
You will find lots of good information there. I'm sure one of the site moderators will move this post to an appropriate place soon enough.
Hold onto that Frictionite, they are a gold!

As promised, this thread has been moved to a more appropriate location.

I am NOT experienced with the Spidy hones, but from what I have gathered from reading about them here in the hones and honing threads, they are a great hone to work with once they are "broken in"
I would not trust a Norton Flattening stone to do that job, since the Spidco is supposed to be a very hard stone, and the flattning stone may not be all that flat to begin with. It (the flattning stone) is designed to be used with the other Norton water stones (like the 1k-4k-8k)
The Frictionite 00 is a wonderful stone to use as a "touch up" stone for when your razor just needs a quick refreshing.
I am sure there are people out there who use them as a finish hone, but that is a debate for another topic!

Now get on those message boards and start reading and asking questions!

The "grit" of a Spydie UF is actually quite coarse around 2k IIRC but like a barber hone the polish that is put on it at the factory & the density or closeness of the particles makes it behave as a much finer stone. They are guaranteed flat from the factory so lapping is only required if you want to change the finish somehow.
