Thanked: 0New to this world
Hows it goin everyone. Well I found myself an old H. Boker & co straight razor and thought I would try to use it. It's been all cleaned up and ready to go just need a stropping belt. Anyone around halifax N.S know how to get one. I know it will take some time to get everything I need together for my first try but it will come.

Thanked: 52Welcome. You will want to make sure it has been professionally honed before using too or it won't shave well. Strops sometimes become available in the classified ads here and there are on-line places which advertise on the forum which have a good selection of strops too.

If you can't find anyone in your area several members on this site are professional honemeisters. You can send it off and they will get it back to you in a couple of weeks. In the meantime you can read up on this site and educate yourself on the ins and outs. I have one out to Lynn right now. He is the founder of this site and very helpful.

Thanked: 3224If I take it correctly, your Boker is cleaned up but not honed. You might get lucky and get some kind of shave out of it but if it is like most older razors I have seen they need to be honed first. Stropping will not fix a bad edge, it will merely tune up a good one slightly. You will need a strop to help maintain an already sharp edge. I think there are a couple of members in Nova Scotia that might be able to help you with that. You might want to search them out if they don't see this thread.
