First Razor & First shave.
So my package finally arrived from Classic Edge Shaving, and wow. Everything is awesome. I immediately went and had a nice hot shower while the kettle boiled. The water was put into the scuttle and I mixed up a pretty pathetic later (I am sure I will get better at that), and started to shave away.
I, being me, decided to do my whole face (minus go-t). I had no problems with that, other then the left handed thing. The razor in my left hand was just so,... wrong. I use a knife at work almost all day long and its never in my left hand. So I did my whole left side of my face, right handed. Only one tiny issue, and that is my fault for not waiting for irritation from my (hopefully) last shave, with an electric razor... I just barely nicked a tiny bump of that with the tinniest amount of blood, more like a deep scratch.
I went with 2 passes, WTG, ATG. I am just as smooth as I was with my bic's and electric razors before, in some spots smoother. I am nowhere near BBS of course. Alum block, what can I say, other then COOL! Such a weird/good feeling, and it did stop that nick in no time.
Anyone else ever just use the one hand for both sides of the face?Family motto:

Thanked: 2Well done mate. You got it sussed. As far as the left handed thing goes, you will get the hang of it. I'm left handed so my right hand was shoddy to start with but give it a few weeks and it will really start falling in to place. I know a guy who does use his right hand for his whole face but he does have sideburns and I can't comfortably get the right angle at ear level yet with a crossover.

Thanked: 67I used my right hand for the entire shave for about the first three months, before starting gradually with the left hand, just doing the easy bits left-handed. My left hand is nowhere near as precise as my right, and at first I thought I'd never shave that way. In the end I tried it because I couldn't get such a smooth result on one side.
I think that this had the advantage that I got the very basics of angle, lathering, and the feel when the razor is properly used without having to worry about using my non-dominant hand as well. I wouldn't force yourself to use the left hand right from the start, but I know others have different advice.

I always hide my guns just before I shave, just in case something goes wrong.

Thanked: 20Five months with only my right hand! I have a goatee as well and I think that helps! I have yet to hold a razor in my left hand. Maybe I will try soon! I think if you can do well with one hand learn the basics that way!

Well, it is my first razor and all, but the blade feels great, good strong steel, the plastic scales, meh. But that's is probably where the lower cost comes in, and I am fine with that. They were out of "belt" style strops and sent me a board strop which is very nice leather and on a sturdy board with great rubber feet on the bottom. I plan on using this for other knives once I get a large belt strop in. The brush is a good size, though it lost a few hairs when I first used it (I assume that a new brush has a break in period). The steel bowl that comes with the kit is, IMO small. But I knew this when I ordered it, and also got the scuttle too. The honing job that Paul has done, in one word: Amazing. I would give this set a 9/10 in a beginners class. They only lost a mark for the scales however, I did enjoy paying the 170 for everything (minus scuttle) and not 170 for just a razor.
