Thanked: 0Just purchased my first straight razor( Iwasaki Kamisori 2)
Kamisori 2 is what i purchased and after dong some research im gathering that it might be a tough razor to learn on? i havent ever shaved with a straight razor before and i have been reading there might be a specific strop and hone to use with the Kamisori. I will continue seraching but wanted to see if there was some more experienced opinions about use with a newbie.
Thanks in advance

Thanked: 13245Since you bought this as a first razor ignore anyone that tells you it will be a harder to Hone, Strop, or Shave with a Kamisori..
The learning curve for you will be based only on this type of razor so it won't be any "Harder" it will just be slightly different for you then most on here..
I would suggest that you concentrate your learning searches to only Kamisori based Vids and Articles
Pre and post shave should be basically the same as everyone else (personally I make a Kamisori lather just a tiny bit "thinner" then I do normally)
JimR has a great Shaving Vid on here
There are several good Honing Vids out there besides mine to watch, try and learn from them all...
Kamisori will hone differently, but once they are shave ready, they are very easy to maintain, only the initial honing process is difficult to learn...
Just shaved this morning with my Iwasaki they are awesome razorsLast edited by gssixgun; 12-15-2012 at 10:14 PM.

Probably like learning to drive on a manual tranny. There is a bit more to think about but in the end it's no big deal.
