How many shaves before I change the blade?
I have a shavette that I've used 4 times now. How many shaves can I expect to get before I should change the blade?

Thanked: 38Difficult answer, from 2 to 5 depending on:
The blade
Your beard
Your feeling
As an alternative you could strop the blade and keep it much longer

It's very dependent on how coarse your beard is and maybe even the brand of blade. I usually use feather blades and I can get away with about 4 shaves with a feather and my beard is pretty coarse. Usually if you feel the blade start to pull or having difficulty cutting the hair then it's time to change it up.
There is always a solution, whether it's already present or if you have to make it.

Re: How many shaves before I change the blade?
The brand of blade I've got is astra. As to how course my beard is - I'm not sure how it compares. About average I would imagine.

I agree with the above...it depends. I'm about "average" and use sharks, derby's and astras. I change them up after 5 shaves.

I keep it to 5 shaves. I did see on ebay or Amazon a deal for 300 single edge blades for shavettes, and it comes with a dovo-type shavette. Worth looking into.

Thanked: 0This is more for anecdotal evidence as I'm only on my second shave with a "shavette", but anyhow... I have a very coarse beard--not very dense, but coarse hair--and tried to reuse a Shark blade. That was not a good idea. Perhaps I should've given more time between shaves (more than a day) for my second attempt, but my face is pretty irritated right now. I have some Feather blades on the way. Hopefully I will be able to get a couple shaves out of each of those.

I would definetely wait more than 24 hours to shave again, specially if you are just getting started with SR shaving. I also have a "shavette" and typically wait 48 hours to shave again. I changed the blade the first two times but after reading here that it might be a good idea to keep it and see how it shaves I decided to do that. The blade actually gets better in my opinion. I use a derby blade.
