First two thoughts of over a hundred are.
Has the blade been honed?
And if so what type of shave angle are you using?

Thanked: 3I can tell you that mine skipped (still does a bit) and the problem was mostly my shave angle (too steep). Taughter skin, shallower angle, sharper blade, and 80% of the problem went away.

Thanked: 983Razor too blunt and lack of practice. Remedy: Have razor honed and commence the very next shave with it, without having stropped it first. What you end up with is the best shave you can manage at the stage that you're at. You would be wanting to improve on that every consecutive shave, providing you strop the razor correctly for the next and all the following shaves. Give it two weeks of daily shaving and you should be getting a nice, passable shave that will still get better with more practice.

Thanked: 44Skipping is a tricky problem that mostly breaks down to a much simpler one: the razor is encountering difficulty cutting hairs. Even my Feather blades will struggle to whack through a dry beard, and my recent switch to well-honed kamisori shaving reminded me just how spoiled I was with those Feather blades, since the kamisori were all prone to tugging and pulling. For me, improved lather technique and a bit of angle tuning will be necessary for ideal results. If your razor is sharp, make sure your beard is as soft as possible and keep your lather slick. Tweaking your angle (both higher and lower) might help the razor get better purchase and cut smoothly through the hairs.

Thank you gents.
My razor is a half hollow 5/8 Dovo I bought recently from SRD. I am on the fourth or fifth shave with it but i cant tell if my stropping dulled the edge.
I should have noted that it skips around the jaw line and the sides of the chin. The easy areas like planes of the chicks shave smoothly.
In all, the shave was not great but not bad either. It was presentable and very little irritation afterwards.

Well that helps. It is almost certainly your angle in the areas you are having problems. It's all apart of the learning curve and we have all been there.

LOL
BTW, thanks for the advice. I adjust the angle (more acute in relation to the skin) and made sure the lather was wetter and there was very little skipping to speak of.
