You may notice that the strop might be a little stiff, but dont worry, just keep rubbing it well with your palm ( while one end is attached to a hook or rod) and it will break in really well and become soft and supple. Just make sure you dont grab the other end too tight as it might cause the strop to curve/cup along a portion of its length, just grab it gently and nicely taut.
As for the balsa strop (the wooden block with the red and green compounds), use it only when your razor pulls beyond the work of stropping. I have only used the green side once about a month ago or mor (10 laps) and the edge is still shave ready, a more experienced member mught be able to comment on how to use the balsa.
And a day's woth of growth is good enough, but if yours grows slow take another day if you can, i dont wish for you to wait longer than you can, the excitement is always overwhelming
Anyways i presume the kit came with instructions so i mustve repead what you know already.
Enjoy your kit and happy shaving!

Thanks very much for the advice..I might wait till the end of the day tomorrow before I try it out...But yes, the excitement is driving me crazy....lol.Larry did include lots of instructions with every piece he sent...Much appreciated. The razor has a few blemish`s but nothing on the cutting edge. All in all a good seasoned razor...
Thanks Hal and I`ll let y`all know how things go...

Paul, that razor looks beautiful. Larry is quite true to what he sells. Do tell us how your first true sr shave turned out. Also, if the razor was stropped by larry after honing(quite likely the case), it would be recommended that you dont strop it before your first shave so that his edge is preserved to the most and you know what shave ready really means. I believe your ecperience with the crowing rooster was a valuable one, even if the razor wasnt anf youre on the right track now.
    Goodluck and happy shaving!

Anytime, brother. There is indeed a ton of videos and stuff out there which makes it much easier and enjoyable. Also, feel free to ask any questions, the gentle men here will always rush to where help is needed. Still eager to know how your first shave will have gone.
    Take care!

Awesome! That should be fun. Let's not make a habit though of laying razors around open. They will dull like that. You can blow ten hours of honing within 1sec.

Great looking razor. I don't know who hones his razors but they are as shave ready as it gets. You have a good set up there. You shouldn't need to hone it for several months and even then you will probably only need a touch up that can be done with Chromium Oxide. I would however strop it before each and every shave. Be very careful when you are starting out on the stropping as you can dull the blades. You may want to lay the strop on a very flat surface at first and go very slowly. Anyway awesome awesome setup.

After watching a few video`s I`ve been practicing with the Crowing Rooster I have just to get the feel and sound down...
I`ve been watching a video trying to see the angle of the blade to the facial surface...Looks to be tilted more back towards the face than straight up...
    Thanks for the info...

Lynn has a great DVD that shows how to do most stuff with straight razor shaving. YOu can find it in the Classifieds in the section where razors are for sale. It's very valuable for a newbie. It covers shaving too.
