Excellent choice.
Yes, it is really simple to ruin a brand new blade. Also, you want to get it professionally honed the first time, that way you can use it as a benchmark for what a good cutting razor feels like.
Good Luck and definitely let us know how it goes after you get the blade honed.

If you have the $ to spend pick up a ebay razor and practice honing on something you wouldn't mind ruining.
I am doing this presently and I am getting better every time. Learning curve gets you. I don't think anyone can
try and hone for the first time and land it correctly. I have watched dozens of videos and keep learning.
I started with The Norton 4/8k combo and then bought others like the king combo 1k/250 which I do not use.
I am getting amazing results with just the norton combo and the Videos from the Hone Kings.
