Re: Tell me it gets better
Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to use no pressure. On my cheeks, jawline & the first pass on my neck there are no cuts. I will experiment with angle though.

Not sure if you can see it from the pictures, but my face is really red!
Re: Tell me it gets better
Have thought about it, but, again, money is a factor. Currently using Astra, which I was led to believe are pretty good.
Re: Tell me it gets better
My face used to get like yours as well all irritated and red like that. Use a lot less pressure and switch up your angles, it worked for me. To tamp down the redness I used a nice bay rum aftershave- it stings like hell but it worked real well for me. I stuck with it and now I'm about 30-35 shaves in and I see a big turnaround! Stay with it- it def gets better!
Re: Tell me it gets better
Also try getting a regular straight which is a lot more forgiving. Check out whipped dog- they sell reliable straights real cheap. They may not be the prettiest razors as they're sight unseen but they're honed up well!
Re: Tell me it gets better
I think I'm going to try my shavette again tonight just for giggles.
I'm with the rest, take your time. I'm a year in and still learning. Did you mention if you've tried a DE before? That's always a good go between for when your face is a little sensitive

Good luck. I don't know how well it would work but I could mail you some to try. I am in the states tho.
Thanks for the offer, am UK based though, so I'm guessing that won't work.
I may look at some prices for other blades - can't hurt to look!

If only it was that easy - but I don't drink! :)

Re: Tell me it gets better
Thanks for all the replies. I'm not giving up on it. I know a smooth, comfortable shave is possible - even with a shavette! I know this because I've had them from a barber. I'm not going back, or switching to a DE. I might, in the short term, use my old razor for the difficult areas. Just until my general technique improves.
Thanks for the encouragement guys - much appreciated!

Cheers
I have been using a blade for 4 shaves before changing it. This morning's shave was with a brand new blade
Re: Tell me it gets better
Whipped dog's cheapest "the works" (I assume I'd a strop etc.) is still £50

Apologies, I missed the fact that the sight unseen comes with strop
Re: Tell me it gets better
I know it's been said already, but it's almost got to be pressure.
What I like to picture in my head as I go is I'm sliding the blade between the lather and my skin, but without actually touching my skin. I am, of course, but I feel like the mental image helps.
Cartridge razors train us to use pressure to shave. That's a habit built up over years. It's tough to unlearn.
Try to slide above your skin, not on your skin, while still keeping the angle low. You'll get there.
