Default Thoughts on a newbie's purchases...

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie finally taking the plunge into the world of straight razor shaving, something I've wanted to do for quite some time. I've purchased all of my desired beginning items and am just waiting for everything to arrive. Here are the things I ordered after much deliberation online:

-The Sight Unseen deal from Whippeddog.com
-Musgo Real Glycerin Lime Oil Soap (from Amazon)
-Clubman Pinaud Dab-On Nick Relief. 0.25 Ounce (from Amazon)
-Geo F. Trumper's Coconut Oil Hard Shaving Soap (from Amazon)
    -Shave Bowl( 290841092223 from ebay)
-Semogue 1460 Natural Boar Bristle Shaving Brush ( 111000822992 )
-World Of Straight Razor Shaving dvd from Lynn Abrams

Let me know what you all think. Mistakes I made, good choices I made, etc. I'm all ears!

    I there!!! and welcome!!!

Your going to love the Musgo and the Trumpers that for sure. I have both and I love them!! Everything you bought looks good. What about a strop???? did you get that with the whipped dog purchase because you'll need one.

Good luck in the first few months. Stick with it and you'll be a pro in no time!!!!

Sounds like you're off to a good start. If you stick with straight shaving, and you're like the rest of us, you'll be upgrading and adding to your shaving arsenal before your wallet knows what hit it. Also be sure to enter the monthly give-ways for a chance to get more "new" gear as well.

Whipped dog offer a second strop at a reduced rate. Get a second strop. Trust me, you will nick the heck out of the first one until you get your technique down. Enjoy!!

I think you will be happy with the purchase. I have bought from Larry a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Welcome to a great new hobby, and obsession! I second the idea of getting a second strop. Most nicks you can get out with sand paper but its nice to have a backup in case you really slice he hell out of it.

Welcome. I was about where you are 6 months ago. I've learned a lot and learn something new everyday. "It's the journey" they say, and it's sure true about SR8 shaving. I love everyday of it. You won't regret any of the purchases you've made. I guarantee you'll be making more!

your journey is starting off almost perfect....get lots of practise and please try to shave your arm or leg first if it is your very first time taking an open blade to your skin. it will help to give you a feel for the razor. let us know when your stuff arrives. we love pics here

Also the scars are easier to hide.
