Thanked: 0Interested in straight shaving
Hi,
I would like to salut to all you great and helpful members here on this forum.
I am 24 now and i was thinking about buying myself a begginers razor quite a while now. As i have done some research i found out you all like german quality blades.
I am trying to buy myself something cheap from ebay to try it out. I dont want to rush straight to 80 euros worth DOVO razor and then end up not liking at all. As i come from europe i will use UK ebay to browse. Is it possible to buy a decent razor with strop for 30-50eu range. If i end up liking it i will gladly invest more to buy some good razor
Thanks for your time and help
Cheers, Mitja

Welcome to SRP. I don't recommend your first straight shave to come from an ebay razor unless you send it out to be honed by someone who offers honing services. You may want to contact Neil Miller (a member here) regarding honing a razor for you. You could try to send him a PM or here's a link to his website:
Strop-Shop.Co.UK
He is highly recommended. Good luck and keep us posted.

If you mean one of those cheap, new blades that are all over eBay then you should be wary. The reputation for those is terrible.

The problem with that approach is that the odds are pretty good that you will end up with a piece of garbage that will not take a good edge, and therefore you will not enjoy the experience. But you will not be enjoying it because of a crap razor.
There are alternative though:

Welcome to SRP, and good luck!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That's a good call. It probably won't be pretty, but it will definitely be shave-ready and so will give you a decent idea whether this is for you.
