Is My Straight Sharp Enough?
I recently got a used booker straight, I was told that It was honed and shave ready, I can Shave my cheeks ok but it will not remove hair around chin, I think my technique Is good and after 3rd shave I went back to my parker shavette and shaved 4 days of growth with one pass and It glided like butter, Im pretty new to straight shaving but dont want to give up, Is It possible my straight is not sharp enough?
any help greatly appreciated
Steve

My advice is to contact the person who sold you the razor , and tell them you're not happy with it , and see if they will re-hone it , for you . It could be your technique , or it could be the razor . Who knows? All I can tell you is , I've honed razors , that shaved my cheeks just fine , but fell short when I got to my chin . I had enough experience to know it wasn't my technique , so I honed them 'til they shaved my chin right .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

Thanked: 57I suspect that your razor is not sharp. Send it out to be re-honed. When my razor starts to pull and miss right under my chin, those are the two indicators that I use to tell me to get the stones out again.

Thanked: 1I am new to st8 shaving also. I have a shave ready razor honed my a well respected man on this forum. When shaving my cheeks it seems to pull or the blade does want to glide smooth, but my neck, which the beard is much thicker shaves smooth. With the type of shave I described do you think it is my tech. or the razor .

Thanked: 0Sounds like technique RML. Your hair may grow a different direction on the neck and you dont have to stretch the skin much. Theres a lot of stretch in the cheek area and hair tends to change direction the closer you get to the jaw line.
