Thanked: 3Would a safety razor be good alternative if your in a rush
Was wondering what your opinions are of using a safety razor instead of a straight if you don't have a long time to shave. I have never used one thinking of purchasing. If you think it's a good idea would you get from shavenation.com?

I 1st learned to shave with a DE and do not find them to be any harder to use than single blade disposable razors that can be bought by the bag from any pharmacy or supermarket. If you believe that you are in circumstances that will allow the safe use of a single edge disposable razor safely, I can see no reason not to use a DE. I find that the straight razor has a much longer learning curve and after a year of using straights, it has taught me not to use one when rushed, tired, or otherwise unable to give it my full undivided attention.
As I recall, Shavenation.com is owned by geofatboy who has published many well respected shaving videos.Last edited by sheajohnw; 01-28-2013 at 07:30 PM.

Thanked: 2I have a couple of double edge safety razors. I use them when I'm in a rush, or mostly swmbo is!
I went to the bay to get mine. There is another site that has more info on these razors. It's the Badger one. I'm old enough that I bought one that was made the same year I was born! I found that there isn't as much difference in the shave between razors. Have fun shaving. I don't know the

Thanked: 38That's exactly what i was thinking whenfirst started with the straight: when i'm in a hurry I'm using gillette g2 again.
My first shave, 1 pass, took me 15 min.
After a cuple of months 1 pass was taking me 5 min. and I stopped using g2 except when I was very in a hurry, or maybe posponing the shaving to the evening.
After few years it takes me few minutes for 1 pass, I know it and relax. Without the worrying the risk is close to nothing.
I only use my g2 when I need to fly with hand baggage.

I have been wanting to try one just for the hell of it to compare the shave to a straight. One day I will pick one up. I shave at night before I go to bed so I have plenty of time. I enjoy the whole process of shaving with a straight especially the prep. Gives me a chance to take some time to myself out of my busy schedule.

trying to find the right blade combo ive been splitting my shaves half straight , half DE .... as far as one pass shaves i havent really found that it was that much faster and thought " wow not much time difference here " ... then i really noticed going ATG and in the clean up and put away area ..lol..

Good idea! I not only have str8s,I have tons of vintage safties.I collect mostly anything to shave with. When picking a safety, take your skin type into account. They have different types for different skin types.

That's pretty much when I use a DE.
If you get the right razor and mate it to the right blade you can get scarily close with a DE shave quality wise as you would get with a straight. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
