Default New (to here) Straight Shaver

I have been straight shaving exclusively for about 2 months and since the information I picked up on this forum has made it successful I thought it best to join. What really hooked me on the forum were two of your vendors: Tony Millers Strop and The Soap Mistress, Colleen Hurley's soaps. I don't say much, but I will be reading a lot.

    Welcome Vern,

Keep us posted on your progress. Glad everything is working out for you. After 30 years of being a shaving soap cake guy, I have been using Colleen's cream shaving soaps with my new scuttle and really enjoying the hot lather.

    Have fun.

Lynn, you taught me to use a straight razor! With your DVD instruction I've not had a single bloodletting. Also I seem to stay shaven longer than with a DE.

Even if you are an old hand at this the DVD is a must. I learned a technique from the shaving part that made a big difference to me. I always used right hand right side, left hand left side when shaving. Works great except for against grain passes on my neck. Lynn used a cross hand technique for his against grain neck passes and I tried it. Made a world of difference. Still not perfect though as my neck hair grows east/west, not north/south as on my cheeks. With a skinny chicken neck like mine <g> side to side passes seem close to life threatening so I refrain but they would be effective if I were to survive the experience.

    Great DVD!

I've watched the DVD once as a local member had bought a copy and it gave me some useful tips on honing and food for thought on the Bokers that I've been selling. It was very informative.

    Smile Wecome, Vern

Thanks for saying 'hi'. Silence is golden, but hearing about somebody's new razor aquisition is a gem. Post as you will. We'll appreciate it.

PS I couldn't agree with you more about those two vendors and others.

Hi, Vern. I'm new here too. Been coming here a couple weeks or so. This has become my number one site to visit besides ebay. Been shaving with a straight on and off for a few years and just recently made the commitment. All my life I used an old Gillette DE but I started on one of those old brass safety razors that belonged to my grandfather when he was young. Now those things will teach ya not to cut yourself real quick.
