    Default First stone

I purchased a Woodstock SteeleX D1130 1000 Grit and 6000 Grit Japanese Waterstone. Is this a good beginner honing stone? I am not ready to hone quite yet and I don't need to with a brand new SR from SRD but I am not sure if this was a good purchase.

I am not familiar with that particular stone, but the 1k side should be a good bevel setter. You may want to get a finisher of some sort as it can be a little trickier to get a smooth shave off of a 6k. It can be done, but a finisher will give it a more refined edge. I go through a 1k, 3k, 5k, 8k, and 12k for most of my blades. You don't need that many hones but I like it for the fun of it. I have been able to get a nice edge off of my 8k, but have not tried shaving after the 6k.

It's a king stone. They are good stones.

Yeah there's nothing to regret about that purchase.

that stone will serve you well! the 1k is good for setting an even bevel and the 6k will be a mid stage. you will want something as a finisher though. a 6k wont give you the shave your most likely looking for.

Ahhhh thats what it is. I have the King 1k/6k and love it every bit as much as my Nani's. Kinda smells though lol. Good cutter and great feedback. I may invest in more of them one day. Did yours come with a stand?

Not to dis the new stone, but I believe your first stone should be a barbers hone.
