For razors in frequent use, mineral oil or camellia oil are used. Baby oil is scented mineral oil. For longer term storage, an oil for preserving firearms is better but should be wiped off before shaving. Balistol is often recommended. Almost any oil intended to prevent rust will work. Vegetable oils that may oxidize into acidic by-products or sticky films are not recommended. If you have exotic scale materials, check with an expert. Silicon wipes and Renaisance Wax are also used.

Thanked: 0I've asked my barber this before and he said that olive oil does work but he uses mineral oil for all of his. And he has been shaving men with straights for 25 years.
EDIT: My boyfriend asked his barber. He uses my log in. Said there no sense in having two registrations. MEN!

I tried oil but found using it a pain. Since then I've used nothing and have some razors that have been stored carefully for years with nothing at all on the blades. I check them all once a month, but I've never seen any staining or rusting.
