Thanked: 0Time between shower/hot towel to lather & shave
So my shaves have been going fairly well, with minimal nicks; but I find the prep a little chaotic. I feel like I'm rushing between the shower/hot towel to get my face oiled and cream lathered so I can get shaved before my facial pores close again. Definitely taking my time during the shave but, I have no idea if this is something else I should be worrying about.

I don't think you need to rush.
I just dry off, head over to the sink, splash some water on my face and then start lathering. It's not a long process and I don't see the need to hurry.

Thanked: 3I have found that i need a shower prior to shave for comfortable results but it is not a rush. My routine is get shower going, put brush in hot water to soak, take shower, dry off, strop razor, all that is done before any lather hits my face.
But the important thing is to find what works for you. there are tons of variables but once you find the one that works for you don't make major changes just try little adjustments if they work great if not just go back to what works

Take shower, dry off, except for face, turn on tsp, wet brush, load the brush and face lather. It is just too easy.

I think you are stressing out about it too much. My face dries some when I get out of the shower and make the lather but I wet it down again just before I apply the lather.

As you become more proficient, you'll be surprised at just how little preparation you can get away with. I find that as long as I spend 2 minutes or so working the lather on my face, the shave is fine.

Thanked: 983I shave after a shower, but my shave is the last thing I do. By the time I get around to shaving, my face is mostly dry after the shower. As easyace said, working in the lather (I face lather rather than mug/scuttle etc) for a minute or two is about all you should need.

Thanked: 8I've been at this for 8 months now -- daily SR8 shave. I was just thinking this AM while shaving how, what felt hurried and chaotic six months ago now feels calm and not rushed. I think that's the case anytime we learn a new task. Just stick with it, finding what works for you and sooner than you think it will all feel comfortable.

I shower in the mornings and shave at night so my prep only involves a hot towel on my face. I put it on for three minutes total however I wet the towel during the halfway point so it remains hot... Than I shave.. Seems to work well however I'm looking forward to trying out some pre shave oil.
