Thanked: 3Which gun oil?
Esteemed shavers of the straight blade, I have two questions I was hoping to find some help on.
I am a newbie and I am waiting for my first straight after 7 years using the Dovo Shavette. I have chosen a Wacker Best Tradition and understand that one of the best products to preserve it after shaving is gun oil. I had a look online and there seems to be a silicone gun oil and a mineral gun oil. Which is the recommended oil I should use? Please bear in mind that the scales are horn. Also, any concerns of having dermatitis if using mineral oil?
Many thanks,

+1 on the Ballistol. A drop of mineral oil once or twice each year is often recommended for horn scales but I've used Ballistol there as well.

Thanked: 26Ballistol is an amazing product.
Good for leather, wood, and metal. I seem to recall the German Army used it on skin wounds as well as an antiseptic?Steve

Thanked: 3Not to mention using it on horn scales as well!
Really encouraging as I was worried about using oil on my skin for fear of dermatitis or other skin anomalies brought on by using mineral oils, particularly in case of open wounds!

Thanked: 26QHOTE from Ballistol's web site:
In the United States the law prohibits a seller to
advertise or recommend a product for use as a drug in
human or veterinary medicine, unless it has been
approved for these uses by the Food and Drug
Administration. BALLISTOL has not been submitted
for approval by the FDA as a drug.
In Germany a modified formula of BALLISTOL, NEOBALLISTOL,
is admitted for use in veterinary and
human medicine. NEO-BALLISTOL is not sold in the
USA, Canada, or Mexico.
