As I read more and more in the forum and on the web, I see razors listed as 5/8 etc. I've figured out enough that that is a size, is that determined by how tall (from edge to backbone) the razor blade is? Or am I way off track?

Thanked: 346There's some disagreement as to exactly what it means (I disagree with everybody else ), but yeah, it's basically the spine to edge measurement. It's a bit more accurate to measure the spine thickness and correlate that to the razor size, since different spine designs can complicate the obvious way to measure.

Thanked: 0I need some help to
Hello guys
I bought a Dovo Micarta and got a russian leather strop with some fabric one the backside that looks as if it is waxed? What should i use the waxed fabric for? I have stropped it and shaved without wounds but i feel that its not sharp enough. The mustach is impossible to shave .
And if there are someone who can help me to get in contact with someone who can hone it so i know how sharp it should be before i try to hone myself. I am from Sweden so if someone are from Europe it should help alot. But USA will work to. I just want to get it sharp enough for a good shave.
So anyone, please help me.

We had a nice little chat last night. Pontus is a fun guy to talk to. And you should check out the clothingline he's making at http://www.gobidust.se/ the stuff looks really nice!

THat waxy looking material sounds like it's the linen side of your strop. it's used to prepare the blade for final polishing on the leater. Do about 10-20 laps on the linen and then 30-60 on the leather, shave and enjoy!

how often does the guys get together to chat? I've been occupied this week with working in the Emergency Operations Center after we were blasted by the ice storm.

Well, officially only Sunday nights, but the chat room is always open. We've had a few Tuesdays and I'd like to get a 'Red Eye' morning show happening at least a few times for kicks. Things like MSN Messenger are always there too.
