Default Using a straight razor to accentuate a parting in the hairline

    Hi All

So for the last 2 months or so I have been going to a barber who parts my hair with a straight razor. Its a great look with one issue, the definition disappears fast. I recently found a relatively decent looking straight razor in a store nearby and am planning to try and just work on this parting once every other day just to keep it clean.

Naturally I am nervous of doing this, been shaving for a long time but never used a straight razor before.

Anyone have any tips on what I should keep in mind. Stories of failure or success in this field?

    Thanks!

Maybe it's just me, but I have no idea what you mean my parting hair with a straight razor.

    Nor do I...

But the normal caveats regarding factory edge vs. shave-ready would still apply regardless of what it is that you plan on shaving.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

People come into the shop and ask for their part to be shaved in all of the time, generally I try to talk them out of it-- because, as you've learned, a day or two later it doesn't look very good.

The thing that I've noticed about people who try to keep up their own shaved-in part at home, is that It's hard to keep a thin straight part on yourself. So be careful that in a week or two you're not walking around with a quarter inch wide part on your head. Good luck.

I've never asked a barber to shave my 'part'...

What kind of barber are you?!

Can you elaborate on what I should do to avoid that? My barber said the exact same thing.

Sorry and to clarify, by parting of hair I basically mean a thin line across the scalp done with a razor, basically its just a flourish, accentuating a look

I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to go around shaving other men's parts.

To be honest, I don't know if there is a way to totally avoid it, I don't think that I'd be able to do it myself. Your best bet would be to work something out with your barber, or get your girlfriend or somebody to do it.
