Thanked: 1Info on straight razors
Hello everyone,
I am new to shaving with a straight razor and have been doing it for about 3 months now. I truly believe it is the best shave I have ever had. Im girl friend got me a new Dovo for Christmas and from that time I have been looking to by another. I ended up getting two of them off ebay, but don't really know much about them and don't know if they where good buys.
First one is a Tru Steel and I have not been able to find any information for this brand. I got it for about $50.
The second is a double duck straight razor. I got this one for about $80.

The DD is a very fine razor and much in demand. They are known for giving consistently great shaves and being pretty easy to hone. They go for all prices depending on condition and model. it should give you a lifetime of great shaves. Just watch the clear celluloid scales for celluloid rot which is common. keep the razor away from heat and light.

Both look great. I'd love to have that Dubl Duck. Been looking for one for a while now.

I'm not familiar with the Trusteel brand, but it looks like a fine piece of steel. Only one way to know, though, so lather up and have fun!

Welcome to SRP. They look to be in good shape. The important thing now is that they are truly shave ready. If they are all the better, if not , unless you are capable of making them so , have a look in the SRP classifieds 'member services' where you'll find members who provide honing at a nominal fee. The trusteel is not a brand I'm familiar with but from the construction of the blade, especially the area where the transition from cutting edge to tang is, it looks like a good vintage razor.
There is also a razors to avoid list in the SRP library. These are no better that box cutters and are frequently seen on ebay. Finally, either you're lucky or you have a good eye for condition. Always make sure you have good photos to look at of both sides of the razors and scales (handles).

Thanked: 1This is great information! It took me a long time to win something on ebay, and I always did research on the brands before I bid on them. The TruSteel razor is the only one I know nothing about. Thank you for you help.
