Thread: First Full WTG, XTG, and ATG Shave!

20^th Shave – Full Shave!!
Today was my first full, all straight razor shave! WTG, XTG, and ATG!
Okay, so I did try a full shave (all the above) awhile ago and cut myself badly enough to look like my cats had done the shaving. I was feeling pretty confident with my WTG and XTG, and, on a whim, went ahead for the ATG only to slice my neck, a day later my cheek, and then I remembered the advice, STOP when it doesn’t feel right.
So, for the past two weeks I’ve been shaving WTG and XTG with the straights, getting my chops down, and finishing my ATG with a cartridge razor (bleah!). Today, I went ahead with the ATG. I got one tiny (went away when dried my face to put Neosporin on the spot (special thanks to pinklather for that helpful bit), but that was from my XTG. Then I went ahead with my ATG and no cuts or nicks. It’s probably not as close, but, hey, I’m getting there! WooHOO!
Of course, afterward I was craftsmen critical (not close enough here, shaved too much off the goatee there), but I’m working on celebrating the little victories!

The first few shaves are tough and you don't think you're going to get there. But as you've learned you DO get there. Now your next challange will be to get as good of a shave with your SR as you may have with a DE or some other razor....another thing you may convince yourself is impossible to achieve. But achieve you will. Congrats.

Sounds like you are doing ok. Dont sacrifice the skin for a little stubble. The razor is harder than the stubble and the stubble harder than the skin. The razor always wins, but the stubble comes back quickly, the skin, not so fast. My greatest techniques I learned were when enough is enough and my best shaves came when I used little to no pressure. It didnt make sense to me and I still dont know why but for me it works. Invisible stubble is better than razor rash. I get bbs every shave now, took me about 3 months of daily shaving. Good luck!
