Lather
I kind of stumbled across this and it has really been an eye opener. As a newbie I really wasn't focusing that much on making a good lather. After watching more videos done by experienced folks I noticed in all cases their lather was thick enough that it would stay on the razor. When I saw the lather I was making it was no where near that thick. More reading and watching on technique. Caused me to re-look how I was doing it. Big improvement in shaves along with almost no razor burn. Kind of an ah-ha moment.
Thanks for the help-

Yep, water can be highly over-rated.

Straight shaving requires a definite skill set and making good lather is just another skill to be learned.

I just received my first scuttle two days ago. What a difference it makes on the lather, looks like a teapot. I fill it with boiling water while I shower then make my lather it goes onto my face nice and hot, very decadent. I would recommend getting a scuttle like that to anyone, well worth it.
