Thanks everybody! It's great to see we have a strong Canadian contingent on the forum.

I've been lurking around these forums for some time and decided I ought to register. I have a part time sharpening business that I operate here in my hometown and have been getting a LOT of straights. I've honed/restored over 100 razors by now, maybe 150 so I thought I should share some of what I've learned along with learning from some of the seasoned pro's on this site. I definitely could not have gotten started honing without the wealth of knowledge on this site so I should start off with a sincere Thank-you!

Hi Francesco, and welcome to SRP! As a Winnipegger-in-exile, it's good to hear a voice from home, and especially good to hear there's someone local who is available for honing. I have not yet been able to convince anyone from back there to follow me down the straight shaving rabbit hole, but you never know...

Are there any decent shaving supply shops in Wpg these days? I'll probably be coming home for a couple of weeks this summer and am always looking for new stuff and to help out a local business.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Stay away from the antique shop owned by the turkish guy downtown; he wants way too much for the razors he's got for sale

You should try the antique shops in Toronto! They've definitely caught on. I found a whole stash of straights in one of them but the prices were outrageous. $90.00 for a Gotta like you found (maybe not the same size) but the blade was entirely covered in thick red rust.

Larry, you're totally right about them catching on, unfortunately they have no idea what CONDITION means, they just see razor and slap a huge price tag on them.
