    Default First Decent Shave

Hi, I thought id share the news of my first decent shave. I was given a new Dovo about 7 weeks ago and for some reason it wouldn't cut the hairs as it should. Even after the invisible edge honed it. Anyway they are re honing it for free at the moment. So in the meantime I ordered a "This is not a replica" from Baxters in the US of A . It arrived yesterday and I had my first shave with it today. I have tried a few of my brothers razors , his Thiers Issard 6/8 Spartacus being the sharpest, so I have some thing to compare my Heart Steel razor to. Holy wow was I shocked, one stroke down my cheek took away a week of growth, I was stunned. It is super sharp . I did a with and against the grain pass and im truly impressed .I have a bit of stubble here n there under my chin but im a beginner and have a long way to go....cheers

Congratulations and good luck on your journey!

Take it slow, take your time learning, and soon you'll be looking forward to what was once just another mundane morning task!

    Sometimes it IS the razor!

I recently had a similar experience. I was struggling with my "shave ready" razor and being new to straight razor shaving did not want to blame the razor for my troubles. Then I ground and honed an eBay purchase, (a Slater, Sheffield 1/2 hollow round point). I got my first OH WOW moment shaving with a straight razor and haven't looked back. I'm still developing my shaving and honing skills but it's now a whole new ball game. I love it! The only problem is that I'm pretty sure I'm in the initial stages of full blown vintage razor addiction. Oh well, vintage razors are a whole lot less expensive than the hand tools I used to buy and restore so its OK. Good luck with the chin hairs. That area remains my biggest challenge as well.

    Regards,
    Bruce
