Video of my mess
I have been looking around but I haven't found an example of this. If I video my shave (nicks and all) would someone critique my shave? It won't be pretty (unless the pressure of videoing forces me to be on my A-game
) and it will likely be 30 min because I would do it for 3 passes. Anyway I thought I would ask before I put in the time to video what will likely be an embarassing escapade

Thanked: 146You could make a video and I am sure all the fine gentlemen on this site would be happy to critique it. That being said, wouldn't it be easier to post your location and maybe find a local mentor?

Gig Harbor, WA (near Tacoma)
but I actually thought it would be easier to post a video

Thanked: 146If you think it would be easier by all means do so. I am sincerely not trying to tell you how to run your show, but for me, a hands on experienced person can tell you much more and you would get instant feedback. Good Luck and enjoy the ride!

oh definitely agree with you there. I just mean that the likelihood of finding someone local was presumably low

Do it up.
Although, there almost isn't a point to having others critique how you shave, in my opinion anyway.
My reasoning behind this is that everyone's hair grows in different directions, more or less, so unless you feel like you're doing something detrimentally wrong...you kind of just have to figure out what works best for you and develop your own routine.
Don't feel bad if you take 45 minutes to shave, just take your time and don't rush....that's how you hurt yourself
With that being said, check out this link: Shaving passes - Straight Razor Place Wiki if you want to know more about shaving passes and all that jazz
I'm not saying don't make a video, go for it! But I think you may be worrying a little too much

Good advice and precisely why I was asking. I had a feeling that nobody could really give alot of advice from a video since you can't really see the grain, etc. Thanks!

Just take your time and experiment, practice makes perfect.
The guide is useful if you're kind of overwhelmed and don't know where to start or you're the type that needs more structure or you wants ideas etc.
Every shave gets better and shaving everyday helps...I find if I skip a day, I'll forget what I did on my last shave haha
I'm relatively new as well and I take forever to shave now that I use a straight, but the end result is sweet!
If your face ends up extra raw from so many passes, try some Proraso pre/post shave cream. It makes all the little nicks disappear and soothes and conditions your face. Shave oil makes a great after shave as well. Biggest myth of after shave is that it needs to say "after shave" on it! Your face mostly needs to be moisturized, which is why I love the pre/post Proraso cream!
