    Default Sharpening pyramid?

I've seen this phrase used several times, but I have no idea what it means. I was hoping someone might be able to fill me in. Thanks.

Thanks. That's a very good description of how, but I was more wondering what exactly it accomplishes?

By going back and forth between grits with an increasing emphasis on 8000, the pyramid gives you the most consistent honing results. It's an idiot-proof system. For most blades (huge majority), just do enough pyramids and you'll eventually get it shave-ready.
