Thanked: 1This is exactly what I'm talking about right here...I have tried a bunch of different ways of holding the razor, but I just feel it will end bloody so I never follow through with the setup. It is a very awkward way....those of you who can do it, I think a bunch of us would really benefit from a picture to see the angle of attack so-to-speak. Maybe it will be that I just don't have the dexterity or flexibility in my arms and hands to pull off a true XTG pass.

Thanked: 177Pull the side of your neck up with your left hand over your head for your right side, for the left use the ball of your hand at the jawline and pull up. Pull sideways and shave towards your free hand 2 inches at a time. You dont have to tackle the neck in one swoop from side to side. Another way is to dry the upper face after shaving and use the dry skin to pull. Or do the neck first. Its a lot I know but you will get there.

Again - I think what you really mean is a side-to-side pass. What you consider XTG is actually WTG for me. I share your problems with this stroke - but it's not a XTG pass for me.

Hello hollywood,
Moving ear to ear as you have is obviously difficult. And even with the development of technique it might be a chore. However, since it is difficult mainly due to the straight edge of the razor, a smiling blade (preferebly with a muted spike) performs well when going ear to ear on the neck and it only takes a while to get used to it. Athough i do vertical passes on the neck most of the time, i do find myself doing horizontal passes with a smiling blade. Hope you find what works for you.
Take care and happy shaving!

Thanked: 1I appreciate that, I have already scared myself the way it is right below my nose. The one day I was doing this, I put too much pressure while putting the razor to my face, didn't seem like a deep cut, but it was. I mean it doesn't look bad at all, but after I shave I notice it because I am focused on it. Quick lesson learned for sure as to pressure and comfort with a stroke!
As for the responses, thank you very much as they are all appreciated, and I may indeed try the technique that bill3152 described when I shave this evening. Of course it there is no comfort in my positioning I will not do it, but it is definitely a way I have not thought about.
Thanks again folks, this is great information!

Thanked: 177My neck atg growth is left to rt. So i have to cut from rt to left. If my face is dry, i can pull my neck skin up and to the left, this pulls the stubble up. The left side I start under the ear and shave from rt to left starting at the end of the stubble, 2 inches then left hand moves rt then 2 inches etc. And MUTED means I rub the point on the bottom of a drinking glass to dull it.
