    Default Gun oil.

Does anyone know if gun oil can be used to keep straight razors from rusting? I'd like to save a buck if possible since I have plenty of it.

Sure, oil is oil. Just as long as you keep an eye on them. Stored metal with oil can get moisture between the metal and the oil so if you are putting them away for an extended period a wipe down and refresh is a good idea.

    What types do you have?
For me the concern for gun oil use on razors, is not the steel , it's the oil coming in contact with certain types of scale material.

If the storage is long term & you have determined that there will be no scale damage( a hard call to make), then O.K.

but short term storage, day to day, why not mineral oil; works great & don't get much cheaper.

My stored razors are coated in mineral oil, in a wooden cigar box, covered with a linen hankerchief, a cut piece of cheap panty hose filled with rice is kept in the box. I check them every 6 months, it's been over 2 years, they are still beautiful.

It allows the moisture in, but keeps the rice from getting on everything.
Cheap to buy, add rice, works great keeping it dry.

Ya, the rice thing is a good idea & works...but only YOU would have used panty hose...

Many of the gun oils are good for storage due to their corrosion inhibitors, I have used most of them...but for my short term storage in my rotation I use mineral oil now.

Another option is to keep those small packages of silica gel that come in the box with new appliances, pills, electronics....even beef jerky. Don't throw them out. Throw them in with your razors. Oh, and remember NOT to eat them....at least that's what they tell you.
