Kit Arrived! Need Prep Advice.
Hello, I joined SRP a short time ago. My budget was delaying the purchase of a straight razor shaving kit, but an unexpected anniversary present made it possible. I bought a razor and strop set, plus badger brush and TOBS cream. When I opened my package I realized I had overlooked something in my research...I don't know if the strop and brush need any prepping. I have seen references here on SRP concerning shampooing brushes and oiling strops. Just didn't pay much attention because I was focused on razor use. Does anyone have any advice, or could you direct me to a particualar thread(or wiki)? For reference I have a Thater fine badger brush and a 2 inch red latigo strop from SRD.

Thanked: 1263The only prep the strop will need is rubbing with the palm of your hand before use. The brush will be fine as well but may give a bit of a wet animal smell for the first few uses. All in all you should be ready to go right off the bat

Hello and welcome to SRP!
Congratulations on your new kit pictures please
The strop and brush do not require any prep and can be used as soon as they arrive, but over time they will "break in" which means the brush might get a little bit softer and the strop will become a little more supple. The brush might have some animal smell on it but a few latherings is all that'll need to take care of it. As for the wiki, read through the strops and brush sections as they might be of incredible help to you.
Good luck and happy shaving!

Thanks gentlemen! Since I have dogs the brush giving off animal smells won't be a problem, heh-hek. Can't post any pics at the moment. My laptop is down and I am using a backup computer. I will probably post on Shave of the Day in the future.
Moheal, Do the have shwarma in the UAE? I lived in Middle East for a time and think of shwarma frequently.

Hah! Yeah we do have shawarma here! And there are so many kinds of it restaurants even started coming up with "mexican shawarma" and I'm like "leave them mexicans alone, you!". Even with all the different kinds of shawarmas I'm still living in despair as
all the taco-bell branches here have been shut-down Glad theres still Chili's....
