    Default Scales broke

    Hello everyone,
My scales for my new Dovo just broke when I was soaking my razor in 91% rubbing alcohol to clean it. I read somewhere to soak the blade in 91% rubbing alcohol to clean it, is that incorrect? Also how can I replace the scales? How much does it cost, I am new to the process to so I have no idea how to put new scales on if I bought new one. How much do scales cost too?

    Thank you so much,
    Damian from Sunny San Diego

Yes you can use rubbing alcohol to clean the razor.

If you take a look in the library/wiki there are a lot of pages about making things. A search for scales will lead you to several pages including; Making Scales, step by step

You could also buy pre-made scales or send the razor to one of the venders who make scales to fit.

    Thank you, Jonathan.

I do not have enough tools to put the scales on myself. Does anyone know of any vendors that could put on scales near San Diego?

In many years of straight razor shaving I've never found the need to soak a blade in alcohol. I've shaved with many more second hand "vintage" razors than new ones. If the razor is 'grungy' metal polish on a paper towel for corrosion, and soap and tap water for grunge always sufficed for me, and I have yet to get any creepy crawlies as a result of shaving with them.

For sure get a knowledgeable, skilled member, or vendor, to replace the scales. Unless you are extremely 'handy' you are liable to crack the scales at the pivot when you pin them.
