    Default Spots on razor

    Hello,
I'm rather new to straight razor shaving and I have loved every shave thus far! But today I noticed that some spots have appeared on my relatively new razor and was hoping someone might be able to tell me what I should do about it. I think it might be rust. I have been careful of drying the razor after every shave and storing it in my room away from the moister of the bathroom. Any help is welcome.

Usually spots are either hard water stains or rust (corrosion) or soap marks. If they are red or black it's rust. Carbon Steel can begin the oxidation process very easily. It really starts as soon as the metal hit's the air on a molecular level. The best way to remove them is some metal polish or something like a cape cod polishing cloth. You need to watch the part with the logo so you don't damage the finish there as well as near the edge. If you catch it really early sometimes some rubbing with a clean cloth will take them off.

That looks like active rust. All my blades are old Carbon steel,I have never had a blade rust,They live in my bathroom.I use mineral oil on them usually not until the next day, never an issue..
But I wonder,I only use tallow soaps,Palmolive,Cella,P160.Even tho well rinsed of course,I wonder of the tallow affords some protection to the steel?

It's that alien substance exuded by your skin. it just protects the metal.
