Thanked: 369After shaving and washing off remaining lather, apply cold water and lightly rub the alum block all over the shaved area of your wet face (you could just wet the block if you want too). You can then wet your palms with more cold water and rub your face to distribute the alum evenly. Following this you should rinse your face, towel dry then apply your favorite aftershave. Don't forget to dry off your alum block before storing it.
The alum is a mild astringent and face toner. You will sense this with your wetted palms while rubbing your face after applying the alum. It helps close the pores and minor nicks. It also relieves minor irritation from razor burn.
