Thanked: 2Microscope snaps of my blade before and after Coticule
I did my first complete honing today on a Coticule using Dilucot method from coticule.be. Below are snaps made with a USB microscope before and after honing. There was a considerable chip on the blade, which I managed to remove completely. I taped the spine and reapplied the tape couple of times as it got worn out. Anyways, first 4 snaps are before and last 3 are after. Note that the bevel is less polished now, but the big chip and microchips are gone. All snaps are after stropping both on clean polyweb and leather. I used no Crox or any other stropping polisher in the process. Keenness of the blade is about the same on HHT and TPT as well as arm hair test.
Do you guys think a coticule can produce a shinier bevel or this is about as good as it gets?? Have I done some really bad honing here?

Nice pics!
I've used 5-6 Coticules, hard to say how fine you can get an edge from them.
Always got one or two random scratches, gives a nice shave but hands down my Jnats beats them on everything.Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.

Thanked: 13247I think you can get a better finish from the coticule, you have to invest the time with any natural stone to get the most out of it, think of honing on a Natural like a romance, you have to pay a ton of attention to that Gal to have a happy relationship You just went out for your first date
The reason I say this is ONLY from your pics, which is a terrible way to judge hehehe, but the rather straight scratches makes me think there is more that the stone can give, I look for a rather overall Hazy finish from a Coticule... Play around with it and see what happens

Thanked: 13247Yes
See how the shave feels and adjust one aspect, and keep dating that Gal till you figure out her dance steps..
You have to try a few ways until it comes together for you..
I have a set starting point for my coticule finishing which is 20 pigtails laps with a light slurry, then dilute out to clean water over the next 20-30 laps.. But yours might be different
You can see that system on my Coticule videoLast edited by gssixgun; 05-26-2013 at 06:47 PM.
