Thread: Shaving stores in Edmonton Canada?

Hey guys my name is Jordan and I am new to straight shaving. Been using disposables for a while, but find the shaving irritation annoying not to talk about the long term costs. I am looking for stores that might sell straight razors in Edmonton Alberta Canada and from forums I have found it seems to be slim pickings. They are about 1-3 years old though so things could have changed. I am willing to order online for a razor if I have to but does anyone know in Edmonton where I can maybe buy shaving creams and brushes? I find its important to be able to smell the cream/soap/brush before using and ordering online does not allow for that.

Hello SovieHawk and welcome to SRP.
I don't know of any particular specialty shop that would offer what you are looking for in Edmonton but I couldn't resist responding as i'm only 3 hours south in Calgary and I spent 8 years in Edmonchuk back in the 80's.
I would check with the larger drug stores and upscale men's clothing like at West Edmonton Mall.
Also the larger department stores like The Bay have skin products that you can sample.

It's pretty dry around here as far as supplies are concerned. There's pretty much zilch for straight razors and DE's. For other supplies (soaps, creams, brushes) there's Shoppers Drug Mart, The Body Shop, L'Occitane, Crabtree & Evelyn and the Italian Centre. Those are you're best bets.

Welcome to SRP SovietHawk. For soap on a cheaper yet quality scale you can try Shoppers Drug Mart, they carry the Proraso line of soaps and cream...good stuff. They also carry a couple of the Omega Boar brushes that'll serve you well.
There's also Crabtree & Evelynn, again for soap & cream. They carry brushes as well but they're on the expensive side there. There's no place that I know of that sells razors or strops here in Edmonton.

Some of the "higher end" men's barber shops have some stuff, where I go, The Men's Room carries Kyouku, and a few others that escape me right now, as well as smaller silver tip brushes.

Thanks guy I have an idea where to go just gotta go to a barber first for a straight shave to make sure I want to invest in a straight razor. I do not doubt it will give a better shave but I feel getting a professional to do it I can get a feel for it on my face so when I do it I know if I am doing something wrong. I get a lot of ingrown hairs and those razor bumps which apparently do not happen with straight razors.

Just be aware that you'll be getting a shave with a shavette type razor, and not a traditional straight. There are a lot of variables involved with a shavette because it uses a disposable blade, and depending on what blade they use it may (or may not) be harsher than a traditional straight.

If you do decide to go for a straight, keep an eye on the classifieds here at SRP. There are often some great deals available on shave-ready vintage blades.

Just to add here, from what I can tell, I believe Barber Ha offers real straight razor shaves, although I haven't gone in yet. They also seem to carry a selection of soaps, creams, balms, etc.
