Thanked: 0Hello and SR Identification Request
Hi folks,
I am newcomer to SRP. I currently frequent both /r/wicked_edge and badgerandblade and lurk here sometimes. I have been a DE shaver for 7 months. I have a SR that a friend gave me to practice on, and have SR shaved six or seven times now (I save it for my Saturday shave when I have a bit more time).
Anyways, I was blessed to receive my grandfather's SR, but need some help figuring out exactly what it is. Here are some pictures of it.
As you can see, on one side it says Blue Steel, and Hand Made on the other. It seems like rather generic labels, and I wasn't able to turn up much on google.
So here are my questions:
1. What the heck is this?
2. Does it look to be in good enough shape to restore/hone and use?
Cheers!

Welcome to SRP. Nice razor and AFAIC it is in great shape to hone and use. I have a Blue Steel made by 'Kinfolks' cutlery. This is stamped on the reverse tang on mine so I assume your grandfather's came from a different maker. Maybe one of our resident historians can solve this mystery. Anyway, check out 'member services' in the SRP classifieds for info on where to send it, and the SRP library for our beginner's guide to get you started straight razor shaving when the time comes.

Thanked: 50Welcome. Looks like a good heirloom. Should make give you a nice shave.
The first thing I would do is to get some Mothers metal polish and give it a good hand rubbing. should bring back quite a bit of the shine.Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed those who are cold and are not clothed. Thanked: 0Thanks for the info! Would Flitz do the job? I have restored some Nickel DEs with it with good results.
