I have got some stuff coming to the camp that I stay at for work, flying home today for a week, gives me something to look forward to coming back to work for, I feel like a kid at Christmas when I go to the camp office and my new "present" had arrived, the blessing and curse of online purchasing. Hope you enjoy your new buy.

Great stuff! The dovo bq was my first straight and now is my favourite. Ive tried a couple of others like sheffield wedges but the dovo seems the best and most enjoyable, i even rescaled it when i realized how much i love it. Hope it serves you well!

So..... I should have waited to shave. 1 day of growth makes it difficult for me.

The Dovo is Waaaaaay sharper than my other razor. So I just destroyed my face, due to my poor technique. So there was a problem with the other razor, plus my technique sucks. Good to know.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get proper lather as well, I might try a different soap. I'm using Proraso white soap, and I though I like the scent, I don't think I'm getting my lather the right consistency.

This is probably also contributing to the painful shaves. Either way, I was stoked to use the new razor, I'm sure it can only get better... right?

Pitrick - I also use proraso and it took me a while of fooling around to get a good lather. I think the basic culprit was not enough water.
And just for some fellow beginner advice, I have found what people say about the importance of stropping as gospel truth. I bought an old Ebay razor, honed it and went directly to my face - it wouldn't cut a thing. I was deflated. I remembered in my haste I forgot to strop. I did chromium oxide, then linen then leather. It then easily trumped a new razor I have. Now I know to really concentrate on stropping.
I love living in the past...
