How many razors
I probably will not buy a set of honing stones for a while due to the investment cost. I realize there is no definitive answer, just looking for opinions. I have 2 now, a 3rd arriving soon and a 4th coming months down the road. How many razors does a new guy (gal) need to to keep shaving considering periodically sending razors out for service?

I think that really depends on how well you strop and what you strop on
Im new as well (couple of months), I have three razors (i have a problem saying no) and my stropping is not perfect yet. I have read on many threads that with proper stropping and care (drying and storage) your everyday razor can last quite a few months without being honed. multiply that by your razor count. I also know that poor stropping will ruin your edge very very quickly. I hope this helps

Thanked: 1371Theoretically, you could get by with two.
No one here has ever been able to stop at two, so we can't confirm that.

The irony is that when you learn to hone, you will need just one razor. That's what you will 'need', but you will wind up with many more.

Just what I thought, having just 1 or 2 razors is one of those urban legends you always hear about but never see. It's really academic now for me since razors 3 and 4 are in the works.

One razor is all you need. Before you know it, though, you have a second. Then a third. Then a fourth. Then . . . And so it goes in the world of straight razor shaving.

Thanked: 127At the Beginning i started with two Razors, a very fine 1/1 hollow grounded Eugenio Hoppe No. 14 AEVOS and a 1/2 Hollow grounded Veritable P. Fritisse, and after i learned with them i begann to search for other Razors, more Razors with other Characteristics, some hyped Razors, some Razors i bought only because of the Look, but now, after around 120 Razors i guess that a good 1/1 HG about 13/16 and a 1/2 HG about the same Size are the only Razors a Beginner needs, and the 1/2 HG only to learn about the differences between these two types of Groundings.

Thanked: 580Once you are set up and have learned how to hone and strop correctly, as well as shave, you can get away with one, but it is fun to collect and try different razors. They all have their different characteristics and quirks about them.
