Thanked: 0My razor isn't shaving well
I am new to the world of "cut throat", and I just purchased an F.W. Engels razor online from a gentleman. From what I have read I believe he may have over honed it, It tends to pull the hair rather than cut it and I have to end up using my old disposable to finish my shave. I live in Colorado and was wondering if anyone here knows someone who has been doing this for a while that I could send my razor to so that they can determine what it needs to shave properly. Thanks

It can be technique, but to be sure, contact a member here who does honing and have him strop the razor for you as well. These guys all shave with straights and test them before they go out. It is possible that the honing was fine, but the technique isn't there yet. If you get it honed you will be able to single out that variable. Stay Safe!

I agree with Coach and when you get your razor back, all you will need is to rinse the oil off and give it a go.
There are so many variables to learning to shave with a straight razor, the more you eliminate the better off you are!!!
Looks like you are only about an hour away from Denver. There is going to be another Meet up in Denver the 14th of July! Glen (GSSIXGUN) has been coming down from Idaho to be there.
Please try to make it!!! It will be well worth your time!! I just wish I could make it so I could meet my friends Mike and John along with all the other members who live there along with our friend Glen!!

If you can make it, take your razor along!!!!
The more hands on you can get the better! You can learn more in just a few hours than you can reading and or watching for months!!
I’m very hopeful that I’ll be able to make the Northwest Meet this coming fall!!
Hang in there and enjoy the ride! It’s a whole other world and a better one!!

Thanked: 5Out of curiosity, CalKicker, are you doing a soap & brush lather? That's an essential first step.

According to Map Quest you are about 8 hours driving time away from Spokane Meet this coming fall!!
You could break it in half and leave one day, spend the night then come on in the next day and do the same going home! Yes extra expenses but the learning and comradeship is well worth it!
Hope you can make it!Last edited by cudarunner; 06-21-2013 at 09:23 PM.
