Thanked: 0newbie straight razor shaver
Hello, SRP! I am new to the new straight razor scene (not to mention posting on websites) and looking for a little help. I have just one of the basic sets from straight razor designs with all the basics. I have shaved with it once without losing too much blood! Anyway one of my first questions is I have a unscented soap block and have not quite figured how to move it to my mug since it lathers up nicely off the top of the block. any help anyone is willing to give is appreciated!

Do you mean put it in the mug? You sorta just push it there so it's in the bottom of the mug sitting snug.

You can cut it to fit or shred it and press the shreds in (cheese grater) or if it's glycerine based possibly melt it in the microwave and pour it into the mug.

Alright so getting a new tub of soap is intended to be wholly transferred and stored in the mug then?

What kind of soap are you referring to? If it already comes in a tub, it's kind of redundant to move it to a different one, if you ask me. Unless you have an extra special mug for it or something?
Or do you mean a mug to lather in? Most guys, myself included, prefer to load and lather in separate bowls. If you load and lather in the same bowl, it makes it difficult to get the right water to soap ratio when making your lather, as you'll constantly be adding more soap.
I have little plastic containers 3.5" in diameter, 1.5" deep that I'll use for soaps that don't come with a tub, such as Williams. I load my brush and then lather in my bowl.
